Spoon Carving Workshops
I'm delighted to be running regular one-day spoon carving workshops again this year. I'm currently offering approximately a workshop per month but if you're interested in arranging additional courses, with your local community group, for example, don’t hesitate to contact me.
I have once again teamed up with Ballymaloe Cookery School to offer two spoon carving workshops there in 2019: 23rd March and 16th November. Tea, coffee and a beautiful lunch will be provided by the Cookery School. Ticketing for these events is via the Ballymaloe Cookery School website.
A one-day course is 7 hours of tuition, from 10am to 5pm. It is a great introduction to green woodworking, covering fundamental axework and knifework and touching on sharpening techniques too. The aim is to give you the knowledge to be able to go and carve spoons safely at home. All the raw materials and tools are provided. Tea, coffee, biscuits and a big old pot of veg soup is provided for lunch.
The courses cover the following:
wood selection and preparation
splitting and roughing out using an axe
safe carving techniques, using the main knife grips.
an introduction to knife sharpening
If you know someone who likes to work with their hands or has a passion for wood, a spoon carving voucher could be a great, unique gift. Now, instead of just booking courses online, you can also buy a voucher for the recipient to use whenever they are available. You can choose whether you want me to send the voucher directly to them or to you to give to them yourself. Then, they just have to contact me to book a place on any of the upcoming dates.
All workshop dates are shown below. Do check in as more are added or subscribe to the mailing list below to hear about new updates.
