Beginners Spoon Carving
The one-day beginners spoon carving class is 6 hours of tuition, from 10am to 5pm. It is a great introduction to green woodworking, covering fundamental axework, knifework and spoon design. The aim is to give you the knowledge to be able to go and carve spoons safely at home. All the raw materials and tools are provided.
Course Content
Every class cover the following:
wood selection and preparation
splitting and roughing out using an axe
safe carving techniques, using the main knife grips.
go home with your own spoon!
Knife Sharpening
Knife sharpening is somewhat of a lost art. In my opinion, it’s one of the most gratifying skills to learn. Being able to keep my beloved tools and knives razor sharp makes me feel great!
I have put together a high quality sharpening kit, including a really nice German-made sharpening stone. You can add this kit to the class booking and I will bring it along with me on the day. It makes a great gift, including the kit and the sharpening class together. You can also buy the sharpening kit from the shop beforehand if you prefer.
The class participant brings along a knife from their own kitchen and/or tool roll to sharpen on the day. I will cover the sharpening of kitchen knives and woodworking knives. They will leave the workshop with a sharp knife and the the knowledge to keep it sharp!
