Hewn Spoon Carving Knife Prototype (Right-handed)

€50.00

While the Mora 164 knife works well enough for a beginner and is widely and cheaply available, it doesn't not compare with a good tool from a skilled maker. They can be very expensive and/or difficult to gets your hands on so I am developing my own tools. After a lot of R&D, here is the first run of spoon carving knives from Hewn. These are excellent knives, they are being sold as ‘prototypes’ because the shape os slightly different from my final design.

The Blade

Made from High carbon tool steel, these handmade knives are inspired by my experience of carving thousands of spoons, using tools made by many great blacksmiths from around the world. They feature a, compound curve, convex bevel and a forged hollow with finely ground rails.

The Handle

The tapered octogonal handles are handmade are made from strong, dense apple wood.

The Sheath

I’m working on my own sheath design but until that is available, the Morakniv 164 sheath fits on these knives. It’s not an absolutely perfect fit but it works well nevertheless. I’m using them on my prototypes whiles testing. If you’d like to buy a sheath, you can add it to your cart separately here: https://www.hewn.ie/shop/morakniv-164-leather-sheath
