Spoon Carving Workshop at Savour Kilkenny Festival
10am - 5pm
30th October 2017
Venue: Rothe House, Parliament Street, Kilkenny
Come and join me for a day of spoon carving at the great Savour Kilkenny Festival this year.
This is a great introduction to axe and knife work. No woodworking experience is necessary although participants should be reasonably comfortable with the idea of handling sharp tools. You will learn all the skills you need to create a spoon from scratch. All raw materials and tools are provided. Tea, coffee, biscuits and fruit will be available during the day. Do also bring a packed lunch.
"Hands down the best creative course I've taken"
- Kathryn Davey
A wonderful thing about spoon carving is that the tools are cheap, there is no need for a workshop or workbench and the raw material, green wood, is so readily available. It makes it an easy hobby to pick up. This course aims to provide you with knowledge you need to start carving spoons at home.
The courses cover the following:
- wood selection and preparation
- splitting and roughing out using an axe
- safe carving techniques, using the main knife grips.
Come with friends and get a discount! Just choose your group size from the drop-down menu below and leave the 'quantity' as 1. If you wish, you can also get a gift voucher so that the recipient can book their own course on a date that suits them.
